What is Our Meaning?
We always hear that one question: What is the meaning of life? Our answer can reveal what we believe or put our trust in. Often the answers we give like – family, a particular sport, or our profession, might communicate our identity. The good “Christian” answer may even push us to answer, Jesus! It is the correct answer if we profess faith in Him, but I propose a question, do your actions prove that answer?
Many things in this world fight for our attention, and most make good sense. We need jobs to provide for ourselves and our families. We need to spend time with our family and friends to create relationships and a meaningful community. Additionally, with the various items life throws at us, where is there time for meaningful and INTENTIONAL time with God? Unfortunately, if we find ourselves “too busy” daily or often, it may be a heart problem. This is not a critique or a harsh rebuke but a call to action. Although freedom of religion is a beautiful and wonderful benefit, it can create a sense of comfort which leads to laziness when it comes to daily intake of Scripture and deep prayer. Paul writes in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
If Scripture is the breath of God, and it equips us, then is it not one of the most important disciplines we should prioritize? Jesus led by example with His memorization of the Scriptures and deep prayer. We must follow this example. Our meaning in life is to follow Jesus and have a close relationship with Him. He is our friend, but He is also our king who deserves reverence and honor. I cannot think of a better way to honor Him than to follow his written Word and bear our cross daily.
Join with me as the Body of Christ as we continue serving Jesus and gain boldness in our faith to proclaim His name beyond these church walls!
