Where did you see God today?

I was recently a guest in someone’s home for dinner. The family dinnertime conversation included the usual talk about events of the day, good and bad. There were discussions about chores that needed attention and preparing for the following day. At some point, the question was asked, “Where did you see God today?” The children in the home were apparently accustomed to this question and jumped in with stories of someone showing a kindness, another who received unexpected help, and a third whose prayer had been answered.

I had to take a moment when it came my turn to answer. Where had I seen God today? Had it even occurred to me to look for Him as I went through my day? As I mentally reviewed my day, I could only recall reports written, calls made, emails returned, events planned, responsibilities fulfilled.

Where do we see God? Where should we be looking? Scripture tells us that God is everywhere. Jeremiah 23:24 says, “Do you not know that I am everywhere in heaven and on earth?” Since we know that God is everywhere, we should have no trouble seeing Him each day.

Maybe it isn’t so much about where we look, but rather that we look. I find myself being so task-oriented and self-consumed that I fail to pay attention to God’s presence and blessings.

Since that dinnertime question, I have been making it a point to look for God as I go and would like to share with you a few places I have seen Him: In the vibrant colors of a sunrise and summertime flowers… In the sounds of the rain, a song of worship, a child’s laughter and the cries of deep pain… In the softness of a baby’s skin and the roughness of an aged hand… In the eyes of those who are blessed with much and those in great need…

The list is endless. God is indeed everywhere! He is the “One God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all” Ephesians 4:6. May we always be looking so that we don’t miss seeing Him!
