Time Away
Dear Church Family,
I cannot express enough gratitude to our church leadership and church family for generously allowing me and my family to have a time of “clergy renewal” from now through the end of August.
For the first several days, my entire family will be traveling to the UK together and enjoying time in London, Edinburgh, and Inverness. Then, I will participate in a two-week summer school at the University of Oxford. My courses of study will include things I love—biblical studies, Christian art and architecture, Christian history and literature, and practical courses on justice, peacemaking, and serving others.
While I’m out of the pulpit the next few weeks, you can look forward to this excellent lineup of pastors/teachers:
7/28: Dr. Glenn Plum—Pastor, Teacher, Artist
8/4: Dr. Todd Fisher—Executive Director/Treasurer of Oklahoma Baptists
8/11: Dr. Zack Hudson—Associate Pastor, Minister to Families
8/18 & 8/25: Dr. Bobby Kelly—Professor of New Testament at OBU
I have full confidence in the leadership of our excellent staff and many others who help lead and serve throughout the week while I’m gone, so please pray for and encourage them. I’m also excited to be joined by our new minister of music, Michael Slaughter, as we officially begin serving together on September 1.
I believe my time away will be of great benefit to me personally and spiritually; and I trust my studies will also be a blessing to our church family when I return. I am entering this time away with a heart full of thankfulness and joy for the last eight years of serving as your pastor, and I am incredibly hopeful and excited about our future together!
“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:3-6).
