Find Your Tribe

by Jesse Johnston & Jeremy Lott, Men’s Ministry

As Christ followers, we know that Jesus is clear about the importance of meeting together. Why is this? What is it about consistently meeting with others that is so important? For me (Jeremy), it comes down to the reality of trying to live life with all the distractions, stresses, and temptations... and doing it on your own. It’s honestly not possible and it’s not biblical.

It is vital to meet together in order to stay close in your walk with the Lord, to overcome struggles, to mature in your faith, and to bear spiritual fruit. Hebrews 10:24-25 expands on this idea, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

I (Jesse) have been part of a small group and an accountability group for some time. It is life giving to be in community with people who care about my walk with Jesus Christ. Each week I am asked, “How is it with your soul?” This is a simple but profound question that we can be asking our brothers and sisters in Christ. It gets us to the heart of what matters most. Are you abiding in Jesus and how is that abiding transforming your life? These relationships help us live a Gospel centered life. Jesus came to save, to restore, and to transform our lives. We are being conformed to look like our Rabbi Jesus. As we are disciples, we also make disciples. Jesus shows us that making disciples is done through community.

If you are not part of a small group to help encourage you, carry your burdens, pray for you, and hold you accountable, you are missing out on one of life‘s greatest blessings and instructions from our Lord. Find your tribe of men (or women) to do life with, meet together regularly, sharpen and encourage one another, and you will experience a life that honors the Lord and blesses you and those around you!
