We Love Because He First Loved Us
1 John 4:19
February is “LOVE” month. We tell others how much they mean to us. Did you know we became South Tulsa Baptist Church on February 14, 1982? Very appropriate. The DNA of this church is the LOVE of Christ. Before we became autonomous, we were First Baptist South. In 1977, we were the vision and dream of many faithful members of First Baptist Tulsa. The property was purchased and a mission church was under construction. Members met at Thoreau Jr. High until the completion of the Chapel. Jeff and I were married in the Chapel on April 26, 1980. We have been on an amazing journey for 45 years with this community of believers who LOVE each other, our neighborhood, our city, our country and the world. When you take the time to look back at our history, you will see people who have always shared the Good News of Jesus every chance they got.
A huge way of sharing the LOVE of Christ comes through our missions emphasis. I have great mission stories if you want to hear how God has moved and blessed. We teach missions every Wednesday night to preschoolers and children. We offer ESL classes (English as a Second Language) to our newest friends and neighbors. Members of our church are “wrap-around” families for new brothers and sisters in Christ. During the week, people visit The Ministry Center and Jenks CarePoint to be encouraged and helped. They hear, see and experience the LOVE of Christ in very tangible ways. Each Sunday, services are held at The Ministry Center and friends are being baptized.
Jeff and I are blessed to look back and see many unbelievable and awesome things that God has done for, with, and through this family of Jesus followers. We look forward with great joy and anticipation for what God is still doing and preparing us to do. Let’s never stop loving others. Remember, “we love because he first loved us.” Who can you love for Jesus this week?
