His Promise is Peace

“O come, all you unfaithful. Come, weak and unstable. Come, know you are not alone. He’s the Lamb who was given, slain for our pardon. His promise is peace for those who
believe.” — “O Come, All You Unfaithful” by Sovereign Grace Music

Advent is a season of anticipation and longing as we prepare our hearts for the arrival of Christ. However, many people walk into this season carrying burdens they do not speak of. A few weeks ago in worship we sang the song “O Come, All You Unfaithful.” It is a song I first came across last Christmas and it has stuck with me over the last year. The lyrics to this song invite us to approach Jesus not with our own perfection or strength, but in our weakness and failure. They remind us that, despite our unfaithfulness and brokenness, God is with us and His promise is peace.

The word “peace” carries deep meaning during Advent, especially when we reflect on the peace that Jesus brings to a troubled world. In the midst of our brokenness, the peace of Christ is not just a distant hope but a present reality. In Luke 2, the angels proclaimed, “Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth, goodwill toward men.” Jesus, the Prince of Peace, entered into a world fractured by sin and division, offering peace that transcends all understanding. This peace is not the absence of conflict or struggles, but it is true peace in the midst of the conflict and struggles that only comes through abiding with the Lord.

As we prepare for Christmas, we are invited to reflect on this peace that comes not because we are deserving or strong, but because Christ has come to us in our brokenness. He is the God who meets us in our weakness, offering peace to our restless hearts.

This Advent, let us come as we are—imperfect, struggling, and weak. Let us bring our burdens and find in Jesus the peace that only He can give. He is here, and His peace is for you.
