Building Hope and Community Eden Village’s Mission
Imagine a place where the weary find rest, where the broken find healing, and where the lost find a home. Eden Village embodies these ideals, offering more than just shelter—it provides a safe community and a path to restoration for those who have experienced chronic homelessness.
In February 2023, I had the honor of visiting the original Eden Village in Springfield, Missouri, which has successfully operated for the past five years. After touring the tiny home community and witnessing firsthand the transformative impact it has had, I left excited for Tulsa’s own Eden Village to be built, especially knowing it will be only minutes away from The Ministry Center. Isaiah 58:7 calls us to “share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your homes.” Eden Village Tulsa lives out this scripture by offering permanent supportive housing to individuals who have faced the hardships of homelessness.
Beyond providing shelter, Eden Village fosters a sense of family among its residents. Upon acceptance of an application, a chronically homeless individual will move into their own tiny home in a gated community of their peers. The community is supported by on-site support services like: a psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse, psychiatric case managers, life skills coach, faith-based counselors, and qualified mental health providers at The Helmerich Community Center. At the center residents can both work and interact with other residents, guests, and volunteers. It is up to that individual to become an active member of the community, provide rent, and be a good, law-abiding, neighbor. Residents are welcome to live in an Eden Village as long as they are a benefit to themselves and the community.
For several months, we at The Ministry Center have been assisting homeless clients with applications to Eden Village, and we are thrilled to announce that one of our clients will be among the first nine residents, set to move in by the end of August.
If you’d like to learn more about Eden Village and how you can support this transformative initiative in Tulsa, you can visit their website edenvillagetulsa.org or please reach out to me at lisa@ministry-center.org. Together, we can make Tulsa a place where no one sleeps outside.
