From Generation to Generation

I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous support of our music ministry. Your contributions enable us to touch the lives of many, not just within our city and state, but also across the nation and around the world!

Recently, our student choir had an incredible choir tour, where we had the joy of ministering to both students and adults from diverse backgrounds. I am immensely proud of our students; although our choir may be small in number, their voices resonate powerfully as they lead worship!

Last week marked my first experience attending SMAK at South Tulsa, and what a joyful occasion it was! The hallways were filled with over 200 kids and volunteers, all engaged in singing and laughter. I am deeply thankful for Rebecca Johnston, Sean McKinney, Michelle McCarver, and the many other dedicated workers who invest their time and energy into nurturing the next generation.

I would like to extend a challenge to all parents and adults in our church: join us in supporting the music ministry as we strive to reach and engage the next generation. Parents, I encourage you to prioritize your children’s participation in the various programs we offer, such as handbells, student choir, and kids choir. It is our aspiration to train up worship leaders who will carry forward our church’s musical legacy.

To the adults, I urge you to also step up as role models for our students and children. Your commitment to worship through music sets a vital example, showing the importance of this practice in our faith.

The Old Testament describes the Levites’ significant role in temple worship through singing and music. They were appointed to lead choral singing, often accompanied by instruments like psalters, harps, and cymbals. This sacred tradition continues; God desires for us to sing and use the gifts He has bestowed upon us.

I am reminded of Romans 10:14-15, which poses a profound question: “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” Without the message of the gospel being preached, many will not come to know Jesus. Therefore, parents and adults, I challenge you to join us in reaching this generation by playing your part. Be on the lookout for opportunities to participate this fall!

Together, let us nurture a worshipful spirit in our church and empower our future leaders.
