Find Us Faithful
Next Sunday evening our elementary Kids Choirs will have their performance of “The Amazing Grace Race.” The story of this musical is written around Hebrews 12:1-2 which states, “Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us throw off everything that hinders, and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.”
Every time I am part of one of these shows there tends to be one song that stands out and gets stuck in my head for months. This year, it has been the song “Find Us Faithful.” The chorus of the song says “Oh, may all who come behind us find us faithful; May the fire of our devotion light their way. May the footprints that we leave lead them to believe, and the lives we live inspire them to obey.”
This simple yet profound song captures the essence of what Hebrews 12 calls us to: a life of endurance, devotion, and a focus on Christ. We are not running aimlessly—we are running a race that was marked out by Jesus Himself. And just like a relay, we are called to pass the baton of faith to those who come after us.
It’s easy to get discouraged, especially when burdens weigh us down or sin trips us up. But Scripture reminds us that we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses—those who’ve run before us and now cheer us on - and a community of faith who encourage and sharpen us. As the children sing this musical, they are not just performing – they are learning these truths laid out in scripture. They’re receiving the baton, watching how we run.
I pray that as the South Tulsa community of faith, we will be faithful runners. Let’s make sure the steps we take today lay down a trail of hope and faith for those who follow. May the fire of our devotion light their way. And may our eyes always stay fixed on Jesus.
