What will you do with Jesus?
A few years ago, I became friends with an older man who had struggled nearly all his life to find answers regarding matters of faith. After retirement, he committed himself to seeking answers in our church. After several months of attending worship services and a Bible study weekly, he seemed to be growing in many areas. At one point, when I asked him if he was ready to give his life over fully to the Lord, he replied, “I believe in God, and I believe God loves me. But I haven’t decided yet what to do with Jesus.”
What will you do with Jesus? I believe there is no more important question in life than this one. Jesus is so much more than merely an important historical figure, a great teacher, or a religious leader. The Bible teaches us that Jesus is the “Son of the Living God” (Mt. 16:16), and He is “the way, the truth, and the life” (Jn. 14:6).
Jesus is not only the way, the truth, and the life in terms of entering heaven, He is the way to know God here on earth. He is the truth that sets us free from sin and death. In Him, we have life to the fullest both now and forever.
What will you do with Jesus? The first step in knowing Jesus as “the way, the truth, and the life” is to surrender your life to Him as Savior and Lord. To call Jesus “Savior” means believing that He died on the cross for your sins. We’ve all sinned against God, which means we all need a savior. To call Jesus “Lord” means believing that God has placed everything that exists under His sovereign control, therefore we are all called to repent, or turn away, from our sins, and to commit our lives in faith to follow Jesus as Lord, Leader, and King forever.
