A Faithful Mother's Love
There truly is nothing that compares with the love of a mother for her children. In many ways, a faithful mother represents God’s love to us more than any other person. In Isaiah 66:13, God compared His love to that of a faithful mother: “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.”
No human tenderness, nurturing, or compassion can match that of a loving mother. As one famous author wrote, “The heart of a Mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find Forgiveness.”
Proverbs 31 also has much to say about the attributes of a godly woman, including a faithful mother: “She brings good, not harm, all the days of her life… She is clothed with strength and dignity… She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue… Her children arise and call her blessed…”
Each year on Mother’s Day, I am blessed to reflect on the many mothers in my own life. My mom, Terri, is faithful and consistent, and has supported me in every endeavor. My grandmother (Mema), Teresia, was ever my cheerleader and at times my most trusted confidant. My mother-in-law, Carol, has been among the most encouraging people in my life for more than two decades, and a tremendous example for all the women in our family.
And then, of course, there is the mother I love the most—Rebecca. Rebecca is not only an incredible wife, she’s also a fantastic mother to our children and often called a “second mom” by many of our kids’ friends. Indeed, our entire family is thankful for her each day—we all rise and call her blessed.
This Mother’s Day, I pray you, also, will take time to give thanks and to honor your own mother or other exemplary mothers who have been a godly example in your life. As Proverbs 31 concludes: “Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”
