Hands and Feet

By Lisa Fuller

Matthew 25:35-36, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

Did you know Tulsa has around 3,000 people experiencing homelessness? We have a unique opportunity at The Ministry Center as we not only offer a hand up to those falling on hard times or having trouble making ends meet, but we see around 70 individuals experiencing homelessness monthly. The Ministry Center is situated in NW Tulsa by the Arkansas River where there is a growing homeless camp by the levee. These individuals come in daily to escape the elements, get a shower, clean clothes, hot meal, and most importantly prayer.

Scripture tells us we are fearfully and wonderfully made and that God knows our name. At The Ministry Center, we have over 30 volunteers who faithfully lend their time weekly to serve. Each one strives to treat every person who comes through our doors with respect as we greet them by name. We share their life-struggles, listen to their stories, and pray for them.

In May, Cody came in for a shower and hot meal. This man did not want anything to do with Christ, but as he kept coming in, he had questions about God and the Bible. Quickly, he became a regular who would come in every day. As he came in with his questions, each one of us ministered to him in a variety of ways and prayed for him. We became a safe place to rest and to ask those hard questions. Fast forward 10 weeks and we are blessed to report that last week Cody made the decision to accept Christ into his life! It took 29 showers and hot meals, loads of laundry, hours of questions, and a whole lot of love. We didn’t just share Christ with him, we showed him HIS love through our actions as the body of Christ working together for His glory! We were the hands and feet of God as we carried out His will. To God be the glory!
