Promotion Sunday
Today is Promotion Sunday! While that might not mean much to you Senior Adults and Empty Nesters, it is big time in the lives of our families and specifically the lives of our kids. Here at South Tulsa, this is the time where all our preschoolers through high-schoolers are moving up to the next Sunday Bible Study class and in just a few short weeks our fall programs and Wednesday night activities will all be starting. But this is not the only thing that is becoming new in the lives of our kids.
This time of year brings about a lot of “new” – new teachers, new schools, new classrooms, new friends, new routines. Many times, the word “new” brings about a feeling of excitement. However, another word that could be used is “change” and “change” does not fill us with excitement. In fact, there could be a sense of hesitant anticipation or even dread.
Through times of change, there is one scripture that tends to come to my mind and it is likely a very familiar scripture to you. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” This is one of the very first scriptures I remember committing to memory as a kid; and during times of change or transition it has reminded me of the Lord’s unfailing guidance in our lives. It tells me I do not always have to have the answers, but I do ALWAYS have to seek after the Lord and allow Him to daily guide each step I take.
So, as the school year begins and programs begin again with new classes, old friends, and new friends, please join me in praying for our kids, students, and teachers. Pray that each day when they rise, they will decide to put their trust in the Lord and allow Him to guide their steps. Pray that every person our students and teachers encounter, every lesson they learn, and every experience they have will shape them more into Christ’s image and deepen their relationship with Him.
