Walking in the Gospel of Peace
“Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.” – Corrie Ten Boom
The Word of God teaches us that when we don the armor of God, our feet must be readied with the gospel of peace. But what does this truly mean? In John 16:33, we find reassurance: “I have told you these things so that you may have peace in Me. You will have troubles in this world. Be courageous, for I have overcome the world.” This promise reminds us that we can lean in and rest in Christ despite life’s inevitable challenges.
Sometimes, it feels like we are in the fire of life, but we know with Christ we can still have peace. Philippians 4:7 beautifully states: “The peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” This divine peace is a firm foundation; when everything around us seems bleak, it keeps us planted in truth.
When we allow fear or anxiety to cloud our thoughts, we lose sight of our strength in Christ. Romans 8:6: “To be carnally minded is death, but spiritually minded is life and peace.” The enemy may not target our possessions, but he will undoubtedly attempt to steal our Peace, Joy, Hope, and Faith. He seeks to disrupt the Fruit of the Spirit by tempting us to operate from a place of fear rather than faith.
Every day, we have a choice: to put on the shoes of peace so that nothing will disturb the tranquility Jesus has given us. By steadfastly wearing the armor of God, we stand firm in the peace found in Christ. This peace sustains us and enables us to share it with others, offering a glimpse of hope in tough times. As Corrie Ten Boom so poetically put it, “If you look at the world, you’ll be distressed. If you look within, you’ll be depressed. If you look at God you’ll be at rest.”
So, when life gets messy and things get hard, let us faithfully put on our shoes of peace. With our feet firm in the gospel of peace, we can walk confidently through any storm.
