A Heart for Our Families

“Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them” (Deuteronomy 4:9).

As a new school year begins, many of our parents are seeking the Lord’s strength for some big life changes.

I am one of those parents! In addition to having a high school graduate, we also now have a college senior, a soon-to-be new driver (you’ve been warned), and our youngest is starting a new school. It’s as if Rebecca and I have blinked a few times and suddenly jumped years ahead. Words could never describe how much I love my family and my longing to see each of them thrive in every way—most importantly in how they honor the Lord.

Having served here as pastor at South Tulsa for nearly ten years now, I’ve also grown to love your families dearly! One of the greatest joys of my work in ministry is seeing your preschoolers, children, and teenagers throughout the week and watching them grow year after year. We truly have wonderful families in our church, with many parents and grandparents who are committed to the discipleship and spiritual development of their loved ones. We also have a great staff and many great teachers and volunteers who give much of their time and energy to investing in our young people and helping shepherd them towards a closer walk with Jesus.

I hope each of our families know that you have a pastor and staff who pray continually for you, your children, and your grandchildren. As this school year gets underway, we are more committed than ever to supporting you and your family as you grow in the Lord together and as we all seek to proclaim His faithfulness to “our children and their children after them.”
