Discovering the Best Part
This summer, I’m serving as the College and Young Adult Intern, and one of my favorite opportunities so far has been leading a book study over Practicing the Way by John Mark Comer. This book invites us to move beyond simply believing in Jesus to actually following Him by adopting His habits and letting Him reshape every part of our lives.
One phrase that stood out to me is Comer’s reminder that Jesus is the prize. Often, we think following Jesus will lead to blessings, peace, or purpose (and it does), but that is not the ultimate goal. Jesus Himself is the ultimate goal. The joy of following Jesus isn’t just in what He gives, but in who He is and what He has already done for us. He’s not a means to an end; He’s the end! The reward of discipleship is deeper intimacy with Christ.
This truth has challenged and encouraged me. In a world full of distraction and self-promotion, Jesus invites us into a quieter, deeper relationship with Him. As I walk with college students and young adults this summer, I hope that we all come to see more clearly: the best part of practicing the way of Jesus... is Jesus.
