The dedication of the South Tulsa Baptist First Steps Preschool Ministry is to serve the needs of preschoolers and their families. You will find the South Tulsa Early Learning Program will be a tremendous blessing to your family as your children engage in multi-sensory learning activities, enriching social experiences, foundational educational preparation, and a spiritual foundation. It will be our joy serving you and your preschoolers through the Early Learning Program.

Established in January of 1983, Early Learning Program is one of the premier weekday programs in the South Tulsa area. With a staff of 36, a maximum of 175 students have the opportunity for social, emotional and strong academic development within a Christian environment. Daily specialty classes of Bible Story, Music, Motor Room and Chapel provide for additional Biblical and foundational Christian training.

Fourteen classes divide the children into age appropriate groups taught by two teachers, many of whom have been with Early Learning Program for 15 years or longer! We have at least one early childhood and/or elementary certified teacher in each of our four-year classes and older. Class ratios range from 1:3 in one-year-old classes up to 1:7.5 in the PreK5. Tuition rates vary according to age and class size.

Our Kindergarten has two certified teachers with a teacher-to-student ratio maximum of 1:10 (currently 1:8). We use Saxon Math and Phonics for our curriculum along with an individualized reading program developed by the Kindergarten teachers. We have an extended day for Kindergarten with drop-off at 9:05 a.m./pickup at 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for a total of 17+ hours of weekly instruction. Once a month an optional enrichment day – Camp Kinder – is held on Wednesdays.

We have an extensive security system for all exterior doors and interior doors leading into Preschool and Kindergarten areas, plus a building-wide alert system for natural and man-made emergencies. Teachers can communicate with parents via email and/or text at appropriate times of the day.

Please contact Debbie Steen, Preschool Minister at 918-299-0900 for more information and to schedule a tour of the facility.

More About ELP

Ages Served - Children 12 months (by September 1 of each school year) through Kindergarten(5.5 -6 yrs) may attend. Three classes of ones, twos, threes, and fours are provided. Children are divided by age and development. The PreK5 class is excellent for children who miss the Kindergarten cut-off date and/or are just not academically, socially or emotionally ready for Kindergarten. We do require that children entering the three-year-old program be toilet trained.

Operating Days/Schedule - ELP classes begin the third week of August and close in mid-May. Classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Friday (optional for ones-young fours) from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Special Activities - Throughout the year, we have special activities at ELP. Beginning with our Daddy Date Night and Costume Parade in October, a Pow-Wow in November and Christmas Praise in December, many opportunities are available for parents to join in on our fun. In the spring semester, we have Fun Day, visits from community helpers, and a school-wide PJ Party. To end the year, many of the classes have a Mother’s Day Tea and Spring Sing. Our final fun day is a Water Play Day the last week of school.

Lunch & Snacks - Children bring their own lunches, including a drink, to school. “Finger-type” foods are encouraged; soft drinks are discouraged. We also have two prepaid meals per month you may participate in – Subway and Chick-fil-A. Lunches cannot be warmed up. Simple snacks such as graham crackers or goldfish will be served at appropriate snack times. Water will be served at snack time.
