Christian Living: A Dedication to Intentionality
Why is it important to live intentionally? This summer, the Lord has shown me why living with purpose is vital to the Christian walk.
During my high school years, I claimed to be a Christian, yet did not attempt to live my life in a way that honored the Lord. Eventually, the Lord opened my eyes, convicted my heart, and shattered my prideful mindset. From that experience, I realized there is a significant difference between those who claim to follow Christ and those who actively follow Christ. Although there are many factors, the most noticeable difference is in one’s actions. Making decisions is a universal experience, yet we often overlook how much of a spiritual impact they can have.
Paul reminds the Ephesian church about this call to live with purpose. He writes, “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is” Ephesians 5:15-17. What a wonderful opportunity it is to both glorify our Savior and love others through our actions and speech.
As followers of Christ, we have daily chances to act for good or for evil. In order to further the Kingdom of God, a dedication to intentionality is necessary. We are to love God with our whole heart, soul, and mind. Walking as a Christ-follower means being mindful, not mindless. Our time on this earth is limited, so I have been challenged by Paul’s reminder to be active in glorifying God. Jesus is the perfect example of how to glorify God to the fullest. We are called to imitate Him through our actions, speech, and decisions. Regardless of how large or insignificant each decision may seem to us, our response matters to God.
Returning to the first question, Christ-followers should live intentionally, seeking to further the Kingdom of God in all they do, making the best use of the time they have been given on this earth, all for the glory of Him.
