“The Same God Who Led You In Will Lead You Out”
If you are anything like me, there have been days over the last several weeks that I have thrown my arms up feeling overwhelmed and done with it all! I am done with social distancing. Done with canceling programs. Done with not being able to effectively plan for summer events. Done with not gathering with my church family. If I am honest, those days may have involved some self-pity parties that lasted longer than I care to admit. However, on one of those days I remembered a book by Robert J. Morgan titled The Red Sea Rules: 10 God-Given Strategies for Difficult Times. This book offers ten strategies on how to live in faith during times of crisis based on the Israelites’ story in Exodus 14. I picked it up, began to read, and within the first chapter found these words quoted from South African pastor Andrew Murray during a time of crisis.
“First, He brought me here, it is by His will that I am in the strait place: in that fact I will rest. Next, He will keep me here in His love, and give me grace to behave as His child. Then, He will make the trial a blessing, teaching me the lessons He intends me to learn, and working in me the grace He means to bestow. Last, in His good time He can bring me out again – how and when He knows. Let me say I am here, (1) by God’s appointment, (2) in His keeping, (3) under His training, (4) for His time.”
We can rest knowing God was not surprised by what this year would hold. We can have peace knowing we are never without His presence and love. We can use these days to discover the blessing within the trial and seek after his teaching. Finally, we can take comfort knowing God has not abandoned us and the same God who led us in will lead us out. Just as we see with the Israelites, “God will always make a way for His tired, yet trusting, children, even if He must split the sea to do it.”
