The Great Commission
In our Wednesday night student services, we have been covering the Great Commission and the faithful followers who took the baton of ministry from Jesus to carry the Gospel to the rest of the world. I have been inspired by revisiting these passages of scripture. The boldness these men and women had in the face of persecution, along with challenges within their culture, was extreme. What has stirred me was the power of the Holy Spirit within these individuals. They leaned into God’s strength and it inspired them to do great things. They were faithful in the steps God led them in and they got to see lives radically changed.
While this Bible series has played out over several weeks, my son Preston has been literally living out his faith in front of me. When we first came to South Tulsa, several neighborhood kids began to hang out weekly at the Wolff house. As my boys continued to build on these relationships, eventually came a desire to share their faith with their newfound friends. This has required long term investment and prayer. But recently, one of their friends has joined us on Wednesday night for Bible study. Preston has been answering questions and encouraging his friend through scripture. We have been picking up this friend from school, taking him to dinner and helping him get involved with our church. Last week, we all sat down in my office and we got to lead this friend in prayer in accepting Christ into his life! We got to see my son’s perseverance result in a changed life!
Do we live out the relationships within our lives with the same intentionality? Are we helping lead others to a closer walk with Christ through intentional prayer and encouragement?
This verse has challenged me to live out my faith daily. “Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you” 2 Timothy 4:5.
