Summer 2020

Matt Wolff

We are wrapping up summer 2020 and COVID-19 has produced its fair share of challenges in how to minister to our students. I could tell you all about several traditional events that were missing on our calendar this summer, but instead, let me encourage you with what has been going on in our Student Ministry. For me, God has used this pandemic to slow us down and make us appreciate the little things in life. For example, we have a beautiful piece of property at the back of our church. Did you know we own land past the parking lot? Not sure how many of you have been out there or have looked at it, but it’s really great! And to be honest, before this summer I really did not appreciate it. However, because of the things going on, our Student Ministry has really enjoyed being outside this summer utilizing this piece of property! It’s been refreshing to host worship services outside and enjoy God’s creation around us!

We have experienced many incredible speakers this summer. Several have been our missionary families that happen to be in Tulsa during this time. Our Student Ministry has seen less drama, more community, more encouragement and more unity! We have enjoyed a bit more relaxed way of doing ministry. Our students crave being together! Many of our students have not left at the conclusion of our gatherings but have remained with us much longer, enjoying just being around one another.

This summer we have also enjoyed our incredible interns – Callum Raymick and Presley Sellers. These guys have taken it upon themselves to love our students and have even hosted events at their homes! They have hung-out more with our students than most interns I’ve experienced. While it has looked different this summer, I have to say it’s been a real blessing to experience this season.

We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete. So keep your mind on Jesus…Then you won’t get discouraged and give up (Hebrews 12:2a, 3b).
