I love this time of year! As a believer, it fills me with so many feelings of God’s love and peace over my life.
I recall several years ago when Shiloh and I welcomed Preston, our first child into the world. I was so overwhelmed with feelings of becoming a father. I just didn’t know how I would handle it. The day arrived when he was supposed to be delivered into the world. I remember feeling so anxious, but then he was here and I felt overwhelming love for him. Preston hadn’t done anything but enter my life and I was totally and completely in love with him.
When we begin to look at how we celebrate Christmas, the reason we celebrate this season begins with God’s love for us. Not because of anything we have done, just because we exist.
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
God loves us and sends us His Son. His one and only Son. And why? Because He is demonstrating His love for each one of us. God wishes for everyone to be saved. He doesn’t want anyone to perish because of the sin in our lives.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
God expresses His love by giving us His perfect gift of love – His son, Jesus Christ.
It really begs the question of how am I demonstrating love to others? Not because of what they do for me, but simply because God has placed them in my life.
How are others seeing in my celebration of Christmas as an expression of God’s love?
Christmas should be an ultimate act of putting others’ needs before self.
Let me challenge you to express your love to someone in a way that is selfless and demonstrates that you simply love them; and thank God for placing them in your life.
That’s how we honor Christ this Christmas season. Love others!
