Fun, Food and Friends

Alice Bones

It’s that time again . . . Car Show time! A day of fun, food and hanging out with friends. But, oh, it is so much more.

The car show is a time to open our campus and invite those in the community that may not come to a church at any other time. It’s a time to show them God’s love through our hospitality and friendliness, with no hidden agenda. Many may come that are not currently plugged into a church family. The car show gives them an opportunity to see our church members in action, in a friendly, relaxed, unassuming environment.

One of our new emphasis at South Tulsa is the international population that lives within our community. Many of these neighbors are afraid to come into a Baptist Church for fear of the unknown, or because of cultural mis-teachings, biases or differences. Our car show offers a wonderful opportunity for our internationals to see us and interact with us in a non-intimidating way. We can let them know, without a doubt, that they are welcome and loved.

“Act wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person.” Colossians 4:5-6 (CSB)

One of the main emphasis of the show is to bring canned goods for The Ministry Center (TMC). At TMC we provide for our clients’ physical needs by offering food and clothing. This opens the dialog so that we may share Jesus Christ with them, the only One who can give them the eternal food that they so desperately need. However, for The Ministry Center to take care of their physical needs, it requires a lot of food items. Currently, our cupboards are almost bare. We are relying on the generosity of our car show attendees to help us restock so that we can keep sharing our food as we share the Gospel.

So, come for the fun, the food and the friendship this afternoon, but realize that this is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference for The Kingdom.
