Debbie and her husband Jeff are charter members of South Tulsa Baptist Church. They were married in the Chapel on April 26, 1980. Over the past 34 years, Debbie has served in several areas of ministry. She has taught preschool, children and youth Sunday School classes, plus served as the Director of the Early Learning Program (ELP). Debbie and Jeff have participated in many youth and adult mission trips. Their sons, Conner and Graham, were dedicated and raised at South Tulsa. The boys are now married to amazing women, both named “Laura.”
Raised in Broken Arrow, she graduated from Broken Arrow High School. Early college years were spent at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. She earned her Elementary Education degree from Oklahoma State University. Debbie taught school for Union Public Schools for fifteen years. Jeff did his undergraduate work at OSU and both boys and daughter-in-laws are graduates of Oklahoma State University. Debbie and her family are loyal Cowboy fans.
Debbie accepted Jesus as her savior in October 1974 at Bible Baptist Church, Broken Arrow. As a senior in high school she started teaching mission friends on Wednesday nights. Her life verse is Proverbs 3: 5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not unto your own understanding; acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will direct your paths.”
Being involved with not only children but their parents and grandparents is a passion for Debbie. She believes strongly in the command, Jesus said, “Let the little ones come to Me. Don’t stop them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these” (Mark 10:14).
Other than teaching, Debbie enjoys reading, bicycling, playing with grand-dogs and just spending time with family and friends. Her back porch is her “Chetola,” Cherokee for “haven of rest” The gate is always open. Come sit a while.
