Children of God

Zack Hudson

This Sunday we will raise awareness for the orphan and those families who have adopted or are looking to adopt.  You may or may not know that we have an Adoption Committee that helps families who are going through the process of finding children in need of a forever family. This Sunday we would like to encourage our members to consider adoption and foster care for children in need as well as making a contribution to our Adoption Fund. You can talk with me or Debbie Steen if you’d like more information about how you can help.

Taking care of the orphan is also revealed in the heart of God. We read in Psalm 68:5 that God is “a father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His Holy dwelling.” The term “a father to the fatherless” is used in several verses and along with that is a strong intent that God will defend them and is counting on His people to join in that defense as well. As a parent I understand that there are many needs my children have in which they are counting on me to be there for them and take care of the issues that life throws their way. Our God calls us to action to aid those children who need shelter, care and a family. We should be moved to action because that is what God has done for those who believe. Jesus came into the world unknown to some, but John writes that “to all who did receive him, he gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in his name” (John 1:12). Friends, you and I have the wonderful privilege of being called God’s children. We belong to a forever family and in a similar way we can provide help to a child in need. We appreciate your prayerful consideration in joining us as we defend the fatherless.
