Back to School
Who would have thought that when we weren’t able to return to school after Spring Break that we would still be struggling with the question of going back to school in August? Certainly not me! As a retired public school teacher, my heart goes out to teachers and families everywhere who are trying to navigate what this 2020-2021 year is going to look like. As your Minister to Families with Preschoolers and Director of the Early Learning Program, I have spent long hours reading CDC information and praying for discernment and direction in how South Tulsa Baptist’s weekday program should adjust. The Early Learning Program is a ministry to 165 children on Tuesday/Thursday with a Friday option for older classes. We have amazing teachers who are called to teach preschoolers in a Christian environment. The love of Jesus is shared every day.
I am happy to report that our Early Learning Program will start school on Thursday, August 20 full to capacity. The staff of 31 teachers have met and started planning for students. Appointments have been made for parents and children to come and meet their teachers. Have we had to change some of our procedures and protocols for the safety of the children, parents and staff? You bet! Will there be bumps in the road as we move forward? Of course. I share all of this with you to ask you to join us in praying for our ministry opportunities this school year. Please pray for God’s hand of protection over these little ones and their families. May Deuteronomy 32:2 be true for all our teachers, “Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew, like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.” Thank you for being our prayer partners.
